About the Olympic Time Trial Cycling Event

On 9 March 2011 the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) announced the route of the men's and women's Time Trial cycling event which will take place on 1 August 2012.

The men's Time Trial, which will be 44km long, will be held during the afternoon and it will take in Bushy Park along the route. The race is against the clock with riders starting 90 seconds apart. The cyclist that completes the course in the fastest time wins.

The route will start at Hampton Court Palace and then travel south - it will come back via Kingston, then Teddington and then it will head through Bushy Park along Chestnut Avenue and around the Diana Fountain. It will exit Bushy Park at Hampton Court Gate and then finish at Hampton Court Palace.

About the Olympic Cycling Road Race Event

The Cycling Road Races will take place over two days (one day each for the men's and women's races) and are scheduled for the first two Olympic competition days - 28 and 29 July 2012. The route will pass through Bushy Park and Richmond Park as follows:

  • Bushy Park: The outbound route will enter the park at the north and then head south down Chestnut Avenue, and around the Diana Fountain. The course will not pass through Bushy Park on the return leg.
  • Richmond Park: The outbound course will enter Richmond Park through Roehampton Gate, and then head west to leave the park through Richmond Gate. The return route will enter the park at Kingston Gate, and then head north to Richmond Gate where it will then head east to leave the park at Roehampton Gate.
