Awards received by The Royal Parks in 2010

The Royal Parks (TRP) prides itself in its commitment to excellence. The work of the parks has been recognised with a number of awards over the past year:

  • All eight parks received a Green Flag 2010 award, the national standard for parks.
  • Kensington Gardens, Greenwich Park and St James's Park received Green Heritage Awards for 2010, for the management and interpretation of sites of local or national historic importance.
  • Will to Win Tennis Centres in The Regent's Park and Hyde Park were awarded Beacon status by the Tennis Foundation in recognition of their high quality, fun and affordable community tennis programmes.
  • The 7 July Memorial in Hyde Park won a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award for London, 2010. The memorial was also shortlisted for three RIBA Special Awards 2010: Public Space Award, Stephen Lawrence Prize and Client of the Year.
  • TRP received the Parks Forum Excellence in Parks Award recognising 'excellence and best practice in operational programs' for our work at the Hub community sports centre in The Regent's Park.

  • The Active Westminster Awards run by the City of Westminster, acknowledged The Royal Parks' Active Sports Pledge to provide over two hours of free community sport each week, as part of The Hub in The Regent's Park's service to sport.
  • At the BT Visit London Awards 2010, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park won Best Consumer Event . The annual awards celebrate the attractions, people and businesses that make London a world-class city.
  • TRP achieved Ambassador in Excellence status for work on the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) over the last five years, acknowledging continual organisational improvement.
  • The Royal Parks Guild (TRPG) Awards 2010, acknowledged outstanding work by TRP staff, including apprentices and volunteers. Awards were as follows: The George Cook Award for the apprentice who has given their best and achieved the most on The Royal Parks' apprenticeship scheme (Zoe Basham, apprentice at Greenwich Park), TRPG Wildlife Conservation Award (Roy Sanderson, TRP volunteer since 1959), Lifetime Achievement Award for those with over 40 years service at TRP or those places formerly managed by TRP (Barry Stone RVM - Buckingham Palace Gardens. Brian Batten - Hyde Park. Kevin Knight - Regent's Park. Les Strudwick RVM - Hampton Court Estate.)
  • At The Royal Parks Guild Apprentice Awards 2010, held at The Worshipful Company of Gardeners Autumn Court dinner, awards were given to the most outstanding student of each year group (Adam Savill - 1st year Richmond Park, Ergun Ahmed - 2nd year Richmond Park, Rosemary Gray - 3rd year St James's Park).
  • At the British Iris Society Summer Show 2010, Sharon Evans, Chargehand for Pembroke Lodge Gardens in Richmond Park, won the Ryall Memorial Trophy for her exhibition of Iris from the Pembroke Lodge collection. She also won six firsts, four seconds and eight thirds in class. At the British Iris Society Spring Show 2011, Sharon won first in class for Iris Purple Gem.
