Cycling on The Broad Walk, Regent's Park
The Regent's Park Broad Walk Shared-Use Cycle Trial ran from August 2008 - January 2010, from Chester Road north to the Outer Circle.
The trial was designed to test the suitability of the Broad Walk as a permanent shared pedestrian and cycling route. Funded in partnership between The Royal Parks and Transport for London, the project involved consultation with a range of local stakeholders, park users, organisations representing vulnerable users, and cycling bodies.
The trial was monitored for 12 months, followed by a six-month evaluation period during which time the route remained open. A number of critical success factors were established from the outset and the findings have now been benchmarked against comparable studies conducted within The Royal Parks and similar green spaces.
As the comfort rates for certain success criteria were classed as borderline, it has been decided to maintain the route as shared-use, but to keep this under review. Further monitoring of the route was undertaken during September 2010 and a report produced in December.

Funding has now been secured to undertake surfacing improvements to the northern section of the Broad Walk.
