About us

If you have a specific question, but haven't found answers elsewhere in the site, try here - we have listed some of the questions people ask about the Parks.

Not found what you're looking for? Please contact us.

Q. What are the opening times for the Parks?
A. Each park has its own opening times. Please see individual Parks pages for details

Q. Do all the Parks have the same opening and closing times? What does dusk mean?
A. No, they don't. Check individual Park pages for opening times. Dusk is when it is almost completely dark, just before nightfall.

Q. How can I find out about events and activities in the Parks?
A. You can keep up to date on events and activities in the Parks in several ways: email us your contact details to be placed on the free mailing list for information; check Park noticeboards for new posters/news or add this website's events pages to your favourites and keep coming back!

Q. Can I hold my event in one of the Parks?
A. Guidance for promoters and event organisers is available in the business section. All proposed events need to meet certain criteria. If your event meets the criteria, then you may be granted a license for your event, for which a charge will be made. License fees are decided on a case-by-case basis.

Q. Can I hold a picnic event in the park?
A. We welcome informal gatherings in the parks. If you expect your event to be a more formal affair, we would suggest you read our guidelines on holding events in the parks. Please find them here.

Q. Do I need a permit for photography/filming in the Parks?
A. Not if the resulting images/recordings are for personal use only. However, images or sound recorded for any other purpose require a license, and may attract a fee. Please see the license pages for more information.

Q. How do I find out about adopting a tree/deer etc?
A. Please see the "Supporting the Royal Parks" pages or contact Sally Barney at The Royal Parks on +44 (0)20 7298 2065. Alternatively, email us at adopt@royalparksfoundation.org.

Q. What does the money for adoptions get spent on?
A. Money from the adoptions scheme is used for wildlife conservation and habitat maintenance, not only for the species named but for all the flora and fauna in the Parks. We've chosen our six favourite park inhabitants for adoption, but they are in truth ambassadors for every living thing in the Parks. The Parks are ecosystems, and the fates and fortunes of all are inextricably linked. The adoption scheme is run by the Royal Parks Foundation, a registered charity set up to conserve the Parks for current and future generations.

Q. What happens if my sponsored tree dies?
A. Every tree in The Royal Parks is cared for and looked after to very high standards. If your tree does not survive the first 5 years after planting, we will replace it for you. There are many reasons a tree may not survive - droughts and frost being the main culprits - but we do everything we can to help your tree reach maturity.

Q. If I sponsor a tree in one of the Parks, can I put a plaque on it?
A. The Parks are natural havens in a man made environment - indeed, it is this very fact that makes people fall in love with them. After careful consideration we decided that plaques on sponsored trees would detract from this essential quality. However, all sponsored trees are given a unique number and can be identified in park records and on tree survey maps.

Q. Can I donate a bench in memoriam?
A. At the moment, no. The number of benches we have is decided by weighing up the need to provide seating without unduly affecting the look and feel of the Park open spaces. In general, this means that new benches are introduced only when an existing bench needs replacing. But there are other ways that you can leave a lasting tribute in memory of a loved one, including sponsoring a new tree or through our adoption scheme.

Q. Can I donate a rose bush to the Parks in memoriam?
A. We can't accept roses or other shrubs as gifts, or sponsorship of individual plants in memoriam. However you can adopt The Royal Parks Roses for a set period of time, or 'for life', and dedicate this gift to a loved one. Your money will be used for conservation and maintenance, and to ensure the Parks' world-renowned flower beds continue to set the standard.

Q. Can I scatter ashes within the Parks?
A. We would prefer that you don't. These remains contain high levels of minerals and other elements which, over time, can sterilise the soil and leach into watercourses, disrupting the delicate natural balance.
