Play
New natural play projects
We're working in partnership with London boroughs to give children even more opportunities to explore the natural environment through play. We'll being improving existing equipment in the parks, adding new features and making our play areas more accessible.
This work is part of the Playbuilder scheme, funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The first projects have received £500,000 and are all in Westminster. Local children and young people are involved in planning all the projects.
- Next to the Hub, The Regent's Park Artist Tom Harvey has been commissioned to create a series of timber sculptures and seating designed to appeal to young people. Work will start in autumn 2009 and is expected to be finished early in 2010.
- Hanover Gate Playground, The Regent's Park £200,000 is being invested in this existing playground. We're installing new features, including a play sculpture, water play area, tree house style platform, planted mound with play tunnel and a picnic area. The work should be finished by early 2010.
- Buck Hill Playground, Kensington Gardens Next to this playground, we're creating a feature designed to encourage young people to explore the natural environment. It uses natural materials and will enhance the historic landscape of the gardens. It should be finished in early 2010.
- Victoria Tower Gardens We're refurbishing this playground and adding natural materials. The work should be completed by spring 2011.
