Active Sports Manager

Royal Parks Active Sports Manager
Hi - I'm Beth and I'm the Active Sports Manager at the Hub in Regent's Park.

The Hub is a fantastic new "flying sauceresque" sports facility set in the heart of the park's sports pitches and it's my job to manage it! The thing I love most about my job is its variation, but the location, being based in the middle of a beautiful park, comes a close second. My role can be broken down into three major parts but within these I have a range of different responsibilities which keeps it interesting and definitely challenging.

First (and perhaps least exciting) I am responsible for the operations of the building, this includes managing our cleaning and catering contractors, ensuring the building complies with the latest health and safety legislation and ensuring our customers are well looked after.

Second (and probably the most challenging) involves trying to engage the local community to come into the park and use our facility. The Royal Parks have a sports strategy, which uses sport as a tool to encourage a more diverse range of people to visit the parks. My job is to manage a team of Active Sports Officers to ensure they deliver a programme of activities and events that promotes the importance of fitness, health and well being to the local community. We deliver exercise classes, running groups, multi-sports activities for young people and we work closely with local partners to maximise development opportunities for target groups.

Finally, I am responsible for the finance and administration of the Hub. As an Active England funded project, we have to meet targets for Key Performance Indicators, such as the number of women that use our facility or the number of young people who do regular exercise etc. The booking and programming of these targeted activities has to be delicately balanced to meet the social objectives but also generate enough income to ensure the Hub is sustainable in the long term.

I feel really lucky to work in Regent's park and it's great to see so many people getting so much out of our facilities here. I don't think I could ever go back to working in a regular office!

Volunteering
If you have some spare time, why not volunteer for The Royal Parks? There are many different opportunities and the work is challenging and fun!
