One key feature of Bushy Park is its splendid avenues of mature trees. Horse Chestnut trees line the famous Chestnut Avenue that runs from Hampton Court Gate to Teddington Gate. Lime trees are also found throughout the Park, especially along the historic Lime Avenue, which extends from White Lodge to the Arethusa Fountain. During the 1987 Great Storm, many trees were lost and the treescape was changed dramatically. Bushy Park is one of the best sites in London for mistletoe, which is rare or absent in the other Royal Parks. Mistletoe grows particularly well on the Limes and Hawthorns and is home to several unusual and special creatures, including the aptly named Mistletoe Bug.
