Greenwich Park Orchard

The Royal Parks has taken into its care the restoration of a traditional Orchard, right here at Greenwich Park. Dating from circa 1666, the Orchard was historically part of the Park, and now work is under way for its full regeneration.

We're taking care to preserve original features including c18 walls, a pond, and a remarkable Mulberry tree (Morus nigra). Behind closed doors a dedicated team with volunteers are busy transforming the site into a growing Orchard, developing a spectacularly diverse wildlife-friendly ecology for conservation and educational purposes, and community gardens for everyone to enjoy. For regular updates, and news on when the Orchard will be opening its doors, keep an eye on our website.

Orchard Volunteers

The Royal Parks Foundation, the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and corporate volunteers from Goldman Sachs have been busy clearing some of the overgrown vegetation from the Orchard, which was sent for green waste recycling in the Greenwich Park yard.

With funding from the Friends of Greenwich Park work has started to commission a community artist to design new entrance gates for the Orchard. A series of workshops will be held with local schools and community groups to come up with an impressive functional design for the entrance.
