Give a sparrow a home in Regent's Park
Regent's Park

Wildlife for All is running a 'house a sparrow' event in Regent's Park on Saturday 1st November. It's a free, drop-in event for families taking place between 1.30-3.30pm, by Hanover Gate.

Families are warmly invited to come along and make a specially designed sparrow nesting box, which they can take home to put up in their garden or donate to Regent's Park.

The plight of the poor sparrow is widely acknowledged and research is being undertaken by the RSPB, and other conservation organisations such as the London Biodiversity Partnership, to find out why this once common bird is now so rarely seen in London.

It is hoped that specially designed nesting boxes may help sparrows by providing them with additional roosting and nesting sites. Everyone who makes a box will be asked to take part in the RSPB's sparrow monitoring project, so the success of the boxes can be monitored across London.

The afternoon should be fun, whilst helping one of London's favourite birds. For more information about the event please contact Wildlife for All on 020 7935 7430 or e-mail wildlifeforall@royalparks.gsi.gov.uk
