Inner city school gets graphic for a greener London
Kensington Gardens
Eight inner-city students have joined forces with The Royal Parks to promote participation in the Parks' volunteer scheme. The group of 13-15 year-old pupils from Swanlea School in Tower Hamlets will put up a poster in Kensington Gardens on Monday. The students designed the notice to persuade people from all over the city to get involved with London's favourite green spaces.
120 posters will be displayed prominently in all eight of the Parks. The poster, chosen from a shortlist of ten designs, encourages people to have fun while giving The Royal Parks a helping hand.
Nick Lane, Education and Community Officer for The Royal Parks, said,
'We are keen to encourage people from all sections of society to make the most of The Royal Parks. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity for you to gain new skills, to have fun whilst meeting a wide range of people and to give something back to the community'.
Vanessa Chadwick, a teacher at Swanlea School, said,
'The kids really enjoyed doing this. They gave up their free time to design this poster and it was a good experience for them all'.
The project was commissioned by The Royal Parks, in conjunction with the Tower Hamlets Education and Business Partnership, as part of the Pathfinder scheme in Whitechapel. The enterprise gave the students the chance to use hi-tech software in completing a job for a professional organisation.
