Lovers of military tradition have a double treat in June. The floodlit musical spectacular of Beating Retreat by the Household Division comes to the Horse Guards parade at 9pm on the 3rd and 4th June. This year it will feature hundreds of musicians, drummers and pipers playing spirited marches as well as poignant hymns and anthems. Special guests will include HM The King's Guard from Norway. A week later, there will be an extra Beating Retreat by the Royal Marines in celebration of the birthday of their Captain General, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on 9th, 10th and 11th June at 6.15 pm. Only performed every three years, this magnificent pageant of military music, precision drill and colour dates back to the 16th century and is regarded as a piece of living history. 200 of the world's finest military musicians will be performing along Horse Guards parade with all five Royal Marines Bands on show. Proceeds from this popular event will go to Service Charities including Help for Heroes, Seafarers UK and the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.
