Wedding to be screened live at iconic London locations
The Royal Wedding will be broadcast live on giant screens at two iconic central London locations, where Londoners and visitors alike will be able to join in the momentous celebrations.
Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square will be the venues for free live screenings of Prince William and Kate Middleton's special day. They are being jointly organised by the Department of Media, Culture & Sport, the Mayor of London and The Royal Parks.
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: 'The Royal Wedding will be a truly momentous occasion and we want everyone to be able to join in the celebrations. This is a fantastic opportunity for London to show the world how we relish our traditions and that we know how to throw a party, as well as being an unrivalled city for culture, cuisine and business.'
Minister for Tourism and Heritage John Penrose said: 'London is a fantastic tourist attraction in itself, but the Royal Wedding will make it even more so. So it is right that we do everything we can - including live TV coverage on big screens - to make the visitor experience on that glorious day as peaceful and enjoyable for everyone as possible.'
Mark Camley, Chief Executive of The Royal Parks, said: 'The Royal Parks is very proud of the role it is playing in making the Royal Wedding a day to remember, from preparing the procession route along The Mall, to ensuring the parks next to Buckingham Palace look their very best. It's wonderful to be hosting screens in Hyde Park, where we look forward to welcoming visitors from across London, the UK and the world to watch the event and enjoy the atmosphere. Set within the lovely surroundings of the Royal Park of Hyde Park, there can be no more beautiful - or fittingly regal - place to celebrate this happy occasion.'
