09 December 2013 - Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park, AEG Live and The Royal Parks' 10-day Summer extravaganza in London is back and getting set for 2014 with an enviable line up of artists in July next year. On Saturday 12 July, legendary songwriter, Neil Young and Crazy Horse plus special guests, The National, Tom Odell, Caitlin Rose, Phosphorescent and Flyte will be joined by many more exciting recording artists across four stages - yet to be announced - for what will undoubtedly be another scorching summer of sound.
Tickets will be on pre-sale for Barclaycard customers at 9am on Wednesday 11 December at www.barclaycardunwind.com. Previous fans of Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park and AEG Live can purchase their tickets from 9am on Thursday 12 December. Tickets are on general release from 9am on Friday 13 December.
Considered one of the greatest songwriters ever, Neil Young - who will headline the event on Saturday 12 July - has been one of the most influential artists of the rock age, both as a solo artist and part of the legendary Buffalo Springfield and not to mention Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Twice inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his music ranges from the beautiful acoustic country of 'Heart of Gold' to the marauding rock of 'Down By The River.' This Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park gig will be doubly anticipated as Young and his band Crazy Horse had to cancel some of their UK dates this year due to an injury to guitarist Frank Poncho Sampedro.
Always remaining relevant, Young recently published his acclaimed autobiography 'Waging Heavy Peace' and continues to be heavily involved in environmental issues - championing electric cars, alternative fuels as well as farmers' rights with his annual Farm Aid concert.
He releases new album, 'Live At The Cellar Door' on December 11, a collection of intimate gigs he played at Washington D.C.'s Cellar Door Club in 1970, just after he released the classic album 'After The Goldrush'. In January, Young plays two shows at New York's prestigious Carnegie Hall.
Neil Young is joined by special guests The National, Tom Odell, Caitlin Rose, Phosphorescent and Flyte.
Brooklyn-based band The National are currently touring their critically acclaimed sixth studio album 'Trouble Will Find Me', after two huge Alexandra Palace sell out shows in November.
Joining the line-up will be special guest Tom Odell, who has had an incredible year; Nominated for BBC Sound of 2013, Odell went on win 'Critics Choice' at the Brit Awards and in June, his debut album 'Long Way Down' went straight to number 1 in the UK Album charts. Signed to Lily Allen's label 'In The Name Of' and with a UK tour under his belt, 2014 looks set to be another scorcher for Tom.
Tom Odell said:
"So excited to be supporting one of my all time heroes, a man that has influenced my music, and so much music that I listen to today. I'm psyched!!"
Nashville singer songwriter Caitlin Rose has been hailed as the future of country music and her voice has been compared to greats such as Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. Her second album The Stand In was released this year and has been called one of the albums of 2013 by critics.
Hailing from the music soaked town of Athens, Georgia, USA, Matthew Houck goes by the name Phosphorescent, a country rock drifter who released his latest acclaimed album Muchacho this year.
New 4 piece London band Flyte recorded their EP in a day which was mixed by Radiohead's engineer and Vaccines producer. Described as 'intelligent' song-writers, Flyte built a fan base through busking in London and have gone on to play sell out shows in the capital as well as a UK tour.
Over 10 days last July - during one of the UK's hottest Summers since records began - AEG Live and The Royal Parks presented the inaugural Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park, a totally unique and world-class event which entertained over 350,000 fans in London. Many witnessed some of their favourite artists play over back to back weekends in ticketed events including two nights from The Rolling Stones along with Nile Rogers & Chic, The 1975 and Jake Bugg.
Again in 2014, each live music-packed weekend will be linked by a midweek programme of diverse entertainment, accessible for all to enjoy. From Monday to Thursday, the entire Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park site, except for the main stage, will give visitors the chance to get involved with smaller, more intimate events in the areas of film, music, literature and sport.
Also announced are McBusted, the newly formed pop supergroup, who will headline on Sunday 6 July. The group has caused hysteria and a stampede for tickets to their 2014 dates at The O2 Arena. Alongside McBusted will be special guests The Backstreet Boys.
AEG Live was awarded the five-year contract to create this event in Hyde Park towards the end of last year. Since then, AEG has committed a multi-million pound investment to make Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park an experience unrivalled in London.
Following last year's inaugural event, Barclaycard present British Summer Time Hyde Park was named Best Festival at the UK Event Awards and Best Use of New Technology at the UK Festival Awards.
Penny Boyd, Head of Events and Filming at The Royal Parks said:
"We can't wait to welcome Neil Young and Crazy Horse along with supporting act The National to Hyde Park.
We are very proud with what was achieved in 2013 and winning two industry awards in a first year is testament to the events success.
Working with our partners AEG Live, we not only delivered a truly unique event for Central London, we also raised the bar in terms of sustainability, customer experience and service and local engagement. We are looking forward to building on that success and continuing the great work for 2014."
