The wet weather in April and May has caused delays to the build of the London 2012 venue in Greenwich Park. This has delayed work and deliveries within the Park. This means that from 11 June there will be more daily deliveries and vehicles within the Park to enable work to continue and the temporary arena to be built on time. There will be no overall increase in the overall number of deliveries or vehicles - these deliveries have had to be organised over a shorter timescale.
After careful consideration, LOCOG working with The Royal Parks and Transport for London agreed that the best way to ensure the safety of Park users, given the increase in traffic, was to close The Avenue on 11 June until 1 October; the safety of Park Users continues to be the main priority.
Vehicle access to The Avenue will close on 11 June until 1 October.
From 11 June to 7 July, and from 8 September to 1 October, access to The Avenue for cyclists will be possible between the hours of 6.00am and 8.30am and then from 5.30pm until Park gates close.
Pedestrians will be able to walk alongside The Avenue through a clearly marked route until 7 July, when the majority of the Park closes for the Games, and then again from 8 September.
