From 16-20 April, the Commonwealth Heads of Government will be meeting in London.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is leading on this event and it requires the Old Football Pitches in Hyde Park as part of its arrangements. As a result, the area will be unavailable for recreation use throughout April, and also during a 2-3 month reinstatement period.

The timetable for this event and the resulting reinstatement is being finalised and is weather dependent.

In addition, to facilitate the event the FCO has requested that South Carriage Drive be closed to all traffic from 23:59 on Sunday 15 April until 23:59 on Sunday 22 April. This includes the Cycle Superhighway.

On-road parking on South Carriage Drive will be subject to the following suspensions:

  • Tuesday 3 to Monday 9 April – North parking bays (park side) only
  • Monday 9 to Sunday 15 April – All parking bays
  • Tuesday 24 to Monday 30 April – North parking bays (park side) only

The Royal Parks has agreed to implement these measures, which have historically been used for major events such as the 2012 Olympics. Advance warning signage will be in place.

Please be aware that while this is the FCO’s current timetable, it is subject to change. We will update this page with the latest information as soon as we receive it.

While this event is outside The Royal Parks’ direct control, we are working closely with the FCO and others to mitigate the impact wherever possible.
