Live8
Hyde Park played host to the internationally acclaimed Live 8 concert last night. Attended by more than 200,000 people, acts such as Paul McCartney, U2, Robbie Williams, Madonna and Pink Floyd performed, with messages from the Make Poverty History campaign. Tens of millions of people tuned in to see the show, with pictures beamed all around the world. Staff from The Royal Parks along with staff from other agencies and authorities, including but not limited to Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London and Clear Channel, worked extremely hard in the two month run up to the event and on the day itself. The event ran over time but successful management meant that those attending were able to get home safely. Without the stamina and commitment of all those involved, this one off event would not have been possible.

Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain
Following major reinstatement work the Memorial was reopened on 6th May 2005. A new, tougher turf (more often found on Premier League football pitches) has replaced grass that had been eroded last summer by up to 5,000 visitors an hour. A path of bonded resin gravel has been laid around the Cornish granite, drainage at the site has also been improved and an underground chamber will trap leaves that fall into the water. Visitors are asked not to walk or run in the water of the Memorial, although people are more than welcome to sit on the side and paddle their feet and dabble their hands. We hope that the new measures will mean the Memorial runs smoothly through the summer and beyond.
