The Royal Parks keeps the Green Flags flying high

Published Tuesday 19 August 2014

The Royal Parks have yet again been recognised amongst the best green spaces and heritage landscapes in the country, achieving a raft of Green Flag Awards and Green Heritage Accreditation.

The Royal Parks have yet again been recognised amongst the best green spaces and heritage landscapes in the country, achieving a raft of Green Flag Awards and Green Heritage Accreditation. All eight Royal Parks have been awarded Green Flags, the national award for public and community parks and green spaces. Greenwich Park, Kensington Gardens, St James’s Park and The Green Park have been awarded Green Heritage status.

Award-winning sites, which can be found at www.greenflagaward.org.uk will be raising their flags throughout the week and celebrating their success during Love Parks Week, which runs from the 21st to the 29th July.

In 2012 a record number of 1424 parks and green spaces have received a Green Flag Award - Information on all winners can be viewed on the Green Flag Award website where you will find a wealth of fascinating stories behind our award winning green spaces.

Colin Buttery, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Parks, said:

"We are exceptionally pleased to have retained the awards this year as it has been challenging task with the weather, Diamond Jubilee and Olympic preparations. We are also really pleased to see that the scheme continues to raise the standards of parks and open spaces across the nation. Looking forward we hope to gain Green Heritage status for all our parks."
