The Royal Parks have received some of the highest possible scores in the Green Flag Award Scheme this year.

Published Friday 27 July 2018

I am privileged to announce that The Royal Parks have received some of the highest possible scores in the Green Flag Award Scheme this year. The Green Flag Award Scheme is the international standard for parks and green spaces.

The scheme focuses on the following areas:

  • To ensure that everybody has access to quality green and other open spaces, irrespective of where they live.
  • To ensure that these spaces are appropriately managed and meet the needs of the communities that they serve.
  • To establish standards of good management.
  • To promote and share good practice amongst the green space sector.

Each year Green Flag judges visit 4 of the 8 Royal Parks, this year it was the turn of Hyde Park, Bushy Park, Richmond Park, Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. The parks achieved some of the highest possible, being placed in the top banding for most categories.

For all of us at The Royal Parks holding a Green Flag Award brings a vast amount of prestige. We feel it is also an excellent example of civic achievement, and provides communities with a great sense of pride. As one of our stakeholders we would like to thank your work, support and presence in The Royal Parks. They would not be the amazing space they are without you.

*80+ is the Top Bandscore

The announcement comes after Green Flag judges visited 4 of The Royal Parks. To recognise and reward the hard work of managers, staff and volunteers to assess the effectiveness of our Management and Operations Plans, as well as how well the Green Flag Award expectations have been met.

    • Green Flag = 80+
    • Green Heritage = 75-79

The individual park teams did an exceptional job hosting the judges and guiding them around in a true Royal Parks fashion!
