The Tiny Residents of The Royal Parks

Did you know there are more than 4,700 species of invertebrates that make their homes in the Royal Parks?

Finally! Summer has started, lockdown restrictions are easing and other than keeping your distance and wearing a mask on public transport it’s pretty much back to normal. Right?

Not exactly.

Like many parks and green spaces across the UK, we’re facing a challenge to reopen facilities safely. And like many charities we’re under pressure to do more, with less.

We are rising to this challenge because we know how important parks are to everyone.

70% of people surveyed* recently said parks positively affected their mental or physical health during lockdown. That’s amazing. And we want to give a massive shout out to thank everyone for helping us keep the parks open, providing a lifeline to many. Your kindness and willingness to work together in a crisis meant that we never closed our gates.

But sadly, as lockdown eases, we’re facing a different kind of crisis. People are leaving more rubbish in our parks than we can remember. This is harmful for wildlife, spoils the parks for others and means our staff have to spend more time litter-picking than doing other jobs to keep the parks beautiful.

As we welcome more people through our gates this summer, we want to let you know about a few small things that will make a big difference to us, our parks and the wildlife we share them with.

Be kind to your parks

Enjoy the park

We welcome you to spend some time with nature, meet friends for coffee, exercise, learn about our amazing history or just simply sit and relax. Come and enjoy yourself, that’s what our parks are for.

Be kind to others

It’s easy to take these amazing shared spaces for granted but with millions of people visiting every year the way you act can affect whether or not someone enjoys their visit.

Respect the environment

Pick your litter up and bin it or take it home. Just yours. Treat the wildlife, trees and plants as the wonderful living things that they are.

Share our message

There’s a good chance you’re already enjoying the parks, being kind and respecting the environment. Thank you! Please help us encourage others to follow your lead by sharing our messages and joining the conversations on social media. #BeKindToYourParks
