As a part of the Transport for London’s East-West Cycle Superhighway works, Birdcage Walk will be temporarily closed to all eastbound traffic from 6 February until mid March. Diversion routes will be clearly signed.
Current and planned road closures for this scheme in this area include:
- Storey’s Gate has permanently become southbound only for vehicles between Great George Street and Old Queen Street
- Great George Street will be temporarily closed to eastbound traffic between Horse Guards Road and Parliament Square from early/mid February
- Horse Guards Road will be temporarily closed northbound with no access from Great George Street, Storey’s Gate or Birdcage Walk from mid February until mid March
Diversion advice for Pedestrians - Pedestrian crossings will remain open during the works, where possible, although some temporary closures may be necessary. In these instances, diversion routes will be clearly signed, so please follow the signs and take extra care around the works sites.
Diversion advice for cyclists - Cyclists travelling westbound on Birdcage Walk can join the carriageway, however east bound cyclists are asked to follow all diversion signage given for carriageway traffic. The segregated cycle lane on Great George Street may be temporarily closed at times during the works. Please follow signed diversion routes or dismount and continue your journey on foot where appropriate.
