20mph speed limit adopted in central Royal Parks
The Royal Parks charity has adopted 20mph speed limits in all its central parks. The move reflects a broader shift across London, aligning the park road speed limit with many nearby outer roads.
The change will improve the overall park atmosphere and create a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.
A Royal Parks spokesperson said:
“Reducing the speed limit to 20mph has long been an aspiration for The Royal Parks. This change will create a safer park experience for all people.
“Collectively, this brings the majority of Central London in line, with TfL moving to 20 mph on many of the roads it manages, and many local authorities doing the same.”
The change took effect on Thursday, 24 September. New signage has been installed throughout the parks. Richmond, Bushy and Greenwich Parks previously adopted 20mph within the parks.
