Saturday 1 August, 2pm - 4pm

Celebrate the launch of The Lost Waterways of the Royal Parks with a free guided walk through Richmond Park, led by archaeologist Andrew as part of the Council for British Archaeology's Festival of Archaeology 2026.

This year's festival theme, "Archaeology and Nature", provides the perfect opportunity to discover how the park's natural and historic landscapes are deeply intertwined.

  • Together, we’ll explore the hidden waterways that have shaped Richmond Park for centuries, discovering how water has influenced the park’s ecology, archaeology and royal heritage.
  • Along the way, you'll learn about the new Lost Waterways of the Royal Parks project, which is investigating the historic underground water systems beneath Richmond Park, Greenwich Park and Bushy Park.
  • By documenting forgotten conduits, wells, reservoirs and tunnels that once supplied water to royal residences, including the former Richmond Palace and Palace of Greenwich, the project will reveal a fascinating and little-known chapter in the history of London's Royal Parks.
