New Queen Elizabeth II Garden to feature in special BBC Gardeners' World episode
The story behind one of London's most significant new green spaces is to be told in a special one-hour episode of BBC Gardeners' World, airing on BBC Two and iPlayer on Friday 17 April at 8pm.
Presented by Monty Don, the programme follows the journey of The Queen Elizabeth II Garden in The Regent's Park from conception to completion. It documents two years of transformation, as a disused plant nursery became a two-acre garden honouring the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. From demolition to planting, the episode explores every stage of the project, including an appearance from the team at the Hyde Park Nursery, where some of the plants were sourced.
Fiona Packe, Head Gardener for The Queen Elizabeth II Garden, The Royal Parks, said:
"Being part of this project has been an extraordinary privilege. Having the Gardeners' World team with us over two years, from the very first days on site to the final planting, has been incredibly special. We hope the episode gives viewers a real sense of the care, craft and passion that have gone into every corner of this garden, and that it inspires them to come and visit when we open on 27 April.”
Created by The Royal Parks charity in collaboration with HTA Design, the two-acre garden transforms a former disused plant nursery into a fully accessible, climate-resilient public space. It features a wildlife-supporting circular pond and a central flower garden planted with species significant to Queen Elizabeth II.
Designed to reflect Queen Elizabeth II’s passion for gardens and the outdoors, the planting celebrates the seasons with a rich palette of colour and texture, offering visitors a tranquil retreat from the city throughout the year.
The garden opens to the public on Monday 27 April, to coincide with the late Queen's centenary year.
