The Royal Parks in photos - June

We look back at June through some of our favourite photos, past and present.

June in the Royal Parks is all about events, with Taste of London in The Regent's Park and BST Hyde Park kicking off a series of summer concerts, as well as Trooping the Colour to celebrate the King's birthday. People come from miles around and gather in their thousands to take in the sights and sounds. But there's plenty to see away from the crowds too.

Here are some of our favourite June photos.

Around the parks

Great Exhibition Road Festival

Our team brought a bit of Royal Parks nature to the streets of South Kensington for the Great Exhibition Road Festival. Visitors were invited to learn about the history and biodiversity of the parks through a series of fun activities, aiming to give people a better understanding of the importance of green spaces and the role they play in a city like London.

There are similar free activities on offer this summer, with the team delivering Discovery Days and Nature Roadshows around the parks.

Greenwich Park's new Rose Garden

The Rose Garden in Greenwich Park was looking amazing in June. It was the first summer since the completion of a two-year regeneration project that included a new layout and seating areas, a mixed planting scheme that will better adapt to a changing climate, and of course new roses - around 800 were planted by the end of spring 2025, with 17 new cultivars taking the total to over 40 varieties.

It wasn't just roses, 6,000 plants and 7,000 bulbs were added to the garden to provide more varied habitats and food for pollinators as well as making the garden more resilient.

Trooping the Colour

Once a year, to mark the King's official birthday, Trooping the Colour is held on Horse Guards Parade in St. James's Park. This colourful military parade by the Household Division is from two older military ceremonies - 'Trooping the Colour' and 'Mounting the King's Guard', both of which began during the early eighteenth century.

The procession is viewed by thousands of people every year, who line The Mall and the edge of St. James's Park, and the ceremony is shown live on TV.

A look back in time

Children dressed as fairies serve cake and tea to recovering soldiers at an event in The Regent's Park, June 1917. Fast forward to June 2025 and The Regent's Park is still a popular place to go for a bite to eat, with several cafés and food festival Taste of London showcasing some of the best food and drink in London.

Pop was well represented in Hyde Park at this year's BST, with Olivia Rodrigo opening the series of shows at the end of June and Sabrina Carpenter playing two nights at the start of July.

The event featured dancing, music and fireworks, and is estimated to have attracted over 400,000 people. Almost 200 years later, the Royal Parks continue to be the backdrops to moments of national importance like this.
