Join us for a twilight bat walk paired with live poetry performance...
Tuesday 2 September, 7:30pm - 9pm
How might a poet be inspired by the rhythms and echoes of bats? Join us in The Regent's Park for a unique evening that pairs natural science with poetic exploration.
- Dusk is a special time to experience the nature of The Regent’s Park. As birds are settling into their roosts for the night, bats begin to emerge to flit amongst the trees. Join our guided walk to search for bat species such as common pipistrelles and soprano pipistrelles. Using handheld detectors, we will tune in to the unique, high-frequency calls of bats as they navigate the night’s sky.
- Along the way, eco-poet Dr Briony Hughes (Royal Holloway, University of London) will present an immersive performance from her latest poetry collection, Speculative Frequencies – a book inspired by her own nocturnal encounters with bats in the Surrey Hills.
- This event invites you to re-experience the Royal Parks through multisensory and multispecies perspectives, revealing the language of the night sky and the incredible animals that inhabit it.
