Primrose Hill gates installation

The Royal Parks charity will begin works to install gates on Primrose Hill on Monday 24 March, to support park closures, when necessary. The gates will be installed one at a time, to ensure access at all times and to ensure that visitor disruption is kept to a minimum. Visitors will be directed to the next adjacent gate during works taking place at a particular entrance, with completion of the installation expected in early April, dependent on weather.

The new gates will be in keeping with the Grade II-listed landscape and with other similar gates we have across our parks and will replace the use of the unsightly and costly temporary Heras fencing which has been used in recent years to support closures and which is prone to damage.

The installation of the gates follows extensive engagement to gather the views of residents and park visitors to Primrose Hill on a wide range of issues, including noise disturbances. The installation of gates does not mean that the park will be closed more often. We are maintaining the current 24-hour weekday opening arrangements and we are continuing with weekend summer closures as we have done for the past four years.

This year, the park will be closed from 10pm until 6am the following morning on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Friday 11 April until the clocks go back in October. We may also close the park on ad-hoc days for operational need or for health and safety reasons due to extreme weather conditions.
